Attendance

Children should arrive at school no earlier than 10 minutes before the agreed start of the school day.  If your child is too ill to come into school, parents/carers are asked to contact the school on the first day of absence by 9:15 a.m. to provide the reason for the absence and where possible on each subsequent day of absence. Office staff will make contact with any parent who has not informed the school of their child's absence.

Illness over four days; we may request confirmation of illness or treatment in the form of a doctor's certificate or hospital letter.

As a school we encourage parents/carers to arrange medical appointments out of school hours. Advance permission is required for taking a child out of school.

The children attend 190 school days each year. Parents receive a copy of their child’s daily attendance figures over the course of the year in the annual report.

Absence During Term Time

The law requires that once a child is on the school’s register, he/she should be sent to school every day that it is open. New government legislation has come into force regarding children’s absence from school during term time for reasons other than illness. As of the 1st September 2013, term time holidays are no longer authorised and holiday forms will not be issued. In the case of exceptional circumstances, holiday requests must be submitted to the governing body for consideration. Requests for compassionate leave must be submitted to the headteacher for consideration. Please be aware therefore, any requests for holiday during term time are unlikely to be authorised. Both West Berkshire Council and the School Governors have updated their attendance policies to reflect this change.
